Why we share our animals with guests
We grew up loving animals and moved to Caner Bach because a life with animals felt right for our family. Over the years we’ve seen how much comfort, laughter and calm the animals bring — to us and to our visiting friends. Offering guests the chance to meet and interact with them feels like the natural thing to do. It also helps our animals stay social and enjoy new company in a gentle, controlled way.
The health and wellbeing benefits
Spending time with animals is simple and restorative.
Guests often tell us they feel:
-
Less stressed and more relaxed. Stroking an animal or sitting quietly near them lowers tension and helps you breathe more slowly.
-
Happier and more present. Animals bring gentle attention to the moment, which is a natural mood boost.
-
Encouraged to get outside and move. Feeding, walking or even watching the animals offers light, pleasant activity and fresh air.
-
Comfort and calm for children and adults alike. Animals can help nervous or low-energy visitors feel safer and more at ease.
We don’t promise miracles, but we’ve seen the difference a few minutes with a friendly goat or a calm dog can make.
How to enjoy the animals — our simple house rules
We want visits to be safe and enjoyable for everyone — guests and animals alike. Please follow these friendly guidelines:
-
Ask before you approach. We’ll tell you which animals are happy to have visitors and which need space.
-
Wash hands before and after petting. This keeps the animals healthy and you safe. We provide hand-wash stations.
-
No feeding without permission. We’ll show you what and when the animals can eat. Human food can be dangerous for them.
-
Supervise children. Children are welcome, but please supervise close interactions. Goats, for example, are playful and can be jumpy.
-
Respect Lexie’s role. Lexie is a guardian. Approach her only when we say it’s safe. She may be protective around livestock.
-
Quiet voices and gentle movements. The animals relax when people are calm.
-
Photography is fine. Share your snaps and tag us, but avoid flash near the animals.
Activities you can join
-
Short guided introductions to the animals.
-
Gentle feeding sessions (with approved food).
-
Photo moments in the paddock.
-
Seasonal experiences: lambing or kidding times when available — we’ll tell you in advance and set safe viewing rules.
If you’d like a slightly more hands-on experience, tell us when you book and we’ll see what’s possible and safe that day.
A note on safety and health
Our animals are part of our home and we take their care seriously. If you have allergies, mobility concerns, or are pregnant, please let us know before arrival so we can advise which interactions are best. We also keep vaccinations and routine checks up to date and will always prioritise animal welfare.
FAQs
Can we meet every animal?
Yes you can meet most of them under supervision. We’ll let you know about any animals that need to keep their distance.
Can I bring my own dog?
Caner Bach Lodge is Dog friendly, but where the farm pets are it is dog a free zone. The farm animals are kept away from the property, behind a secure fence. Our dogs and livestock have routines and boundaries; so they will not effect your stay, they have their own area but when visiting the farm pets please leave your dog in the cottage.
Are interactions included with a stay?
Yes — meeting the animals is part of the Caner Bach experience. Special activities (feeding sessions, guided introductions) may be arranged in advance.
share our farm life
We’re proud of our animals and the calm, playful atmosphere they bring to Caner Bach. If you love animals, or if you’ve never had the chance to hand-feed a goat or meet a sheep up close, we hope you’ll give it a try. It’s a small thing that often makes a stay feel rooted, peaceful, and a little brighter.
If you have any questions or special requests about meeting the animals, message us before your stay and we’ll help plan something that fits your visit. We look forward to introducing you to our four-legged friends.
